AEM Short Ram Installation
I heard that AEM will give you a free replacement. I think I'll contact AEM to see if they will exchange me a new filter. I think the old filter is alittle too big. Some1 on here have any kind of info regarding to the exchange, please inform. Thx...Peace...
Thanks for the write-up.
I had one heck of a time getting my BOV to fit properly into the intake. I had to do a lot of tugging and pulling, and it still was somewhat crooked due to pressure from the hose running to the UIC pipe and the radiator hose. AEM didn't instruct to use two clamps on the BOV-intake hose, but adding the top one helped straighten it out somewhat.
Also the valve cover breather fitting, as you pointed out, was ridiculously oversized compared to the stock hose. After much fighting was able to make it fit, but it is at least 1/8" inch too big in diameter compared to the stock hose.
Finally, the heat shield doesn't fit, both bolts won't line up w/o restricting the MAF wire. I have an '05 MR, maybe it is slightly different?
The sound is definitely impressive. It is really loud upon acceration. Almost too loud. If it were any louder, actually, I would be displeased. The BOV can be heard the best when it is releasing say between .1 - .5 bar. I find it is harder to hear when shifting at 1.5 bar.
Thanks again for the guide!

I decided to try today to straighten up my crooked BOV. There are two problems- the BOV hits the upper radiator hose, which made it hot. Next, the hose connecting BOV to UIC pipe was too long with the AEM. Both things contributed to poor fitment, nothing I did could make the BOV sit straight. Guide suggested trimming my factory hose, but that was not an option for me on an aftermarket bolt-on item. Bought a different hose, but it was too cheap and flexible and couldn't make the bends necessary without kinking.
Also, I had the same problem as previously noted with the filter rubbing on the windshield reservoir, it looked bad and would probably have eventually rubbed a hole. Finally, it made the car run worse. When cold, it acted like it might actually die (although it never did). While the sound was cool, it definitely ran stronger and was quite noticeable to me when I reverted to stock.
Have heard that other intakes have similar problems and require tuning. I'd simply like to hear my BOV, and pick up a few HP. Seems like it isn't happening.
Thankfully, the retailer gave me a full refund on the AEM SRI. I was impressed.
Anyway, thanks again for the guide.
