Smile Re-Why rain might be a problem

I drew my conclusions based on the following:
. I had been in rain storms already with the stock air box and had not noticed any performance issues.
. I just installed the cone filter
. I saw moisture (water) on the upper intercooler piping which is right next the filter.

There maybe other factors that made this occurance different than the others but it definately happened and it happened when the cone filter was installed. There was no high water involved or large puddles run threw.

By the way I have an HKS intake (cone filter) on my MKIV Single Turbo Supra and have not had any problems like this. I think the open fins in the hood maybe a contributing factor. In any event I am waiting for another chance to see if it occurs again with the new setup (using the stock air box cover over the cone filter).

the possibility of heavy water raining down thru the hood vent could pose some issue but still it would have to be significant and if you were driving most would go over it , this is a low pressure area and tends to pull air out not in. the box cover would gain you some protection from this type of heavy rain , still not sure it adds up. will just have to see if anyone else has this issue with the cone type. i am running buschur cone filter but so far no rain just a light dab of snow and no issues.

Hey guys, this was what I was refering to when I said you need to get rid of the 90degree angle on the front of the bracket and make it more contured for hood clearance issues.

I actually ultimately did the same thing in preparation for the Buschur pipes I have sitting in my Dining room.. I did put the bracket on the inside of the cover and held in place with epoxy.. but more or less the same end result.. Great job! Came out amazing.. The disadvantage of running aftermarket parts.. Kinda killed my stealthy intent..

MalibuJack, yeah I guess that is the fun of it all though. After all necessity is the mother of invention Here are some pics for anyone interested of the required cotouring of the bracket at the location I was previously talking about for necessary hood clearance.
