Unhappy egt readings (help)

Ok I have done several searches for this little problem I am having, and have come up empty handed. I recently installed my egt gauge and probe they are both VDO units. My problem is that the temp is reading but it is reading very slow and low, my temps are at 900f at WOT.

Here are the facts:

1. Both probe and gauge are made by VDO.
2.The probe is mounted in the #1 ext. manifold runner in the bung used to bolt on the heat shield
3.All the wires are hooked up correctly as per VDO directions.

If any one has any input or past experience like this to help me fix this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Quick but I thought of that and the gauge reads in farenheight. After posting my freind and I actually desided to make some adjustments. We took a grinder and ground down the #1 manifold bung to put the brobe tip at almost dead center in the manifold runner. That did help a little now my car is reading about 850F at idle but it still is only reaching about 1150F at WOT and it just takes way to long to change temp as your driving. My friend who has been helping me has a 2g eclipse GSX with an autometer EGT and he says his gauge adjusts temps almost as fast as his boost gauge does and mine moves nowhere near that quick. So again I call upon the mighty knowledge of evom members to please help, this is beginning to **** me off!

I have an Autometer C2.
It's in the #1 runner.
It reads between 900-1100 cruising and up to 1500 at WOT.
Is this too high?

By the way, it adjust pretty fast. Not as fast as boost but only a second or so behind.
