thing is like $80 from what I've heard, I'd really like one, way to go cheap *** mitsu.

There appears to be 2 different type of filter. The one I saw in the 04 is thin and white in color. Then, the one on this thread has charcoal bits and the material is thicker. I guess the $ 80 filter would be the one shown here. Good pictures! That's what I was talking about. Cut out that plastic slot and insert the filter.

So is this the carbon filter or the white filter's part number?

Here

The part number is not 87210A. That number is it's ID on the microfische. You give that number to mitsu parts counter and they can't look it up. The part number is MN185231. The image on the microfische I saw is exactly like the part in the photos in this thread.

Well I just checked it out and for now I fabricated a filter by American Air Filter for the house in its place. It is a "cut n fit" type. Later on I will probably purchase the real thing.

With the recirc vent open you can just stick filter material into the opening. Or at least it is a plan....
