So if you hit the recirc button, the filter slot opens?

What did you use to cut through the black housing for the blower box? It looks like its pretty thing. I'm guessing a utility knife..?...

noodle - thanks for the how to, very helpful

I didn't want to clutter the how to, but wanted to make sure I understood. Does the air filter have the plastic piece (that you screw in) attached to it? Is that the piece that cost $80 (or 61) from Mitsu???

Everything is on the filter assembly itself and it attaches to the blower box. You do have to supply your own tapping screws though.

In case anyone's missed it I post I made earlier in this thread with a link to where it can be had for $61 shipped. http://www.mitsubishiparts.net/cart/?pn=mn185231

What's the difference between this white filter and the charcoal colored one? Does the charcoal one filter out fumes also?

Mitsubishi Installation Instructions

http://www.nst-auto.com/lanevo/doc_MZ600143.htm

Here is a web page that shows the installation instructions. While I have been unable to get Altavista to translate the page, you can see the step where one cuts to open the slot.

Also there are more photos on this web page,

No.

That is where the sticker (e.g. date of filter change) is to be placed.
