When looking down on the knob, turn it counter-clockwise to loosen, clockwise to tighten.

It's also a good idea to disengage the clutch in case you accidentally move the gearstick.

If it's your first time doing it, it will be a little hard coming out. Just be patient.

Thanks everyone! I got it. LOL But another one: Can/how do you remove the boot? Does the ring around the bottom just pop up? Thanks again.

You must remove the shifter console to get to the clip rivets that hold the boot on. Two screws under the arm rest, pull the arm rest up and disconnect the water sprayer connection to the switch, then after that there will be two screws on the bottom back side of the shifter console. After remove your ashtray and there is one more screw there. Now go down to the front lower part of the console. There are two plastic covers that need to be removed , one is a plastic screw lock and the other is just a clip that you can just pull on (passenger side). After that there are two plastic rivets, all you need to do is grab a small screwdriver and apply pressure to the center part and they will become lose. After that just pull her up from the back But first make sure your shift knob is loose
