Escort Passport SR7 Installed
OK, I don't have much of a walk through here since I had it professionally done for warranty purposes. However, in the process of tearing my dash apart to mount SAFCII and relocate CD Changer controls, I found a few things that are interesting (sucked with regards to my installer)
I had been having issues with false Radar/Laser alerts whenever the car was idling or going under 20mph. I had no clue why, until I took the plastic panel off under the steering column. Holy hell what a rats nest of crap. I can see why this thing was having such a hard time, its brain unit was nested in one giant wire ball and not very well done at that. The power wires were intertwined with the sensor wires, not good for EMI. I unzip tied the disaster and settled in for a 2 hour sort out session.
There are 7 wires for the passport SR7
--Power/Ground
--Front Laser
--Rear Laser
--Radar Sensor
--Mute button
--Dash warning LED
--Display unit
I spooled the 15 feet of extra wire for the radar/laser sensors into one loop. I zip tied this to the bracked under the steering column and pushed it back up and out of the way. I re-ran the display and remounted it to the steering column, re-bundled the wiring for this separately. Remounted the mute button, spooled and nested cable with laser/rader wire. Ran power ground in EMI shielded cable shroud to fuse panel tap.
I relocated the brain box so that you can take off the driver side dash access panel and check the RJ11 connectors this thing uses for 5 of the connections. These tend to get loose as time goes on so I wanted an easier way to check them.
I ran back and forth between my house and a nearby town with Officer not so friendly always waiting behind the welcome sign. Radar detector working much better now. Before I was thinking the SR7 just truly sucked ***. I picked up his first shot at the car 1/2 mile ahead of me. Normally it just lets know if I'm getting a ticket.
Also, I think I banished the damn laser false alarms, which is great because its a damned nuisance. Time will tell on that one.
