there is a difference, but not by much. my friend with an apex silver evo didn;t even know until i told him. derek888 has a point with an older car oxidizing and weather beaten and a NEW rear bumper too.

I know the crash beam is designed to prevent damage at < 15mph, at least.

What I'm wondering is, at speeds > 15mph, does the crash beam help to deflect any of that damage, or does it not really matter whether you have a beam or not?

The only thing that I dont really like about this new JDM rear bumper is the Licence plate lights are sticking out from the bumper. If you could please show a picture of the plate on the car it would be appreciated. I would like to see how it sits on the bumper.

Thankyou,

Derek

What about the JDM bumper bracket?? doesn't the JDM car have a licence plate light on the back that is hidden from sight ? I would almost rather buy the JDM bumper bracket if you could just plug it right in .

Well, that 15mph is relative speed, so it only helps when the relative speed is 15mph. You are the frame of reference, so if you're going 60 and the guy that rear-ends you is going 75 (this will basically never happen) then it's still doing something. I doubt you'd be rearended at a speed relative to the earth greater than 30mph. I like this mod, but I wouldn't be prepared to mess with a new car like this. I'd wait till the car is at least 5 years old to do any body modifications, but that's just me.

Yeah, do you have a pic with your rear plate on? Close up shots would be awesome too, if you can get them.

You guys could wait until the USDM EVO 9 to show up and then get the bumper? So you won't have to fit the license plate hole problem.

I believe the USDM IX bumper is different then the JDM bumper. The thing I'm worried about is the support beam is taken off. If I was to get in an accidne the rear end would be crippled.

the US evo9 will not have the rear diffusor bumper. the US evo9 rear bumper will be the same as the US evo8 rear bumper.

Oh well, that blows

From looking at the pictures of the 9 bumper again, the diffuser is a cosmetic, visual thing. Don't think it really works? It doesn't cover up the back 'pocket' that the stock bumpers create
