I've never had luck with at the NJ inspection stations. The moment I rolled into the garage with my IX the guy was already saying that my car was too low and may not clear the ramp for the suspension check. I'm like...uh...it's factory height. He doesn't believe me and points at my SE lip and says "you added a body kit on this thing." I said, no that's how it comes from the factory. The guy actually called over his manager, who then had to tell him that my car is in fact stock height.
All this and they didnt even notice that my front license plate was just being held on by zip ties. Mwahaha.

NJ Inspection test requirements.
year 95 vehicles and older up to 85 i believe require an emissions dyno run test.
year 96 and newer vehicles require only an OBD2 test. (just a visual inspection, and connecting the OBD2 adapter to see if monitors are set.)
96-2000 vehicles when resetting CEL require all but 2 ECU monitors to be set. 2001 and newer vehicles require all but 1 to be set. Since it usually takes the EVAP monitor a long time to set that is what it is for.
Older that 85 used to be just an idle test, but now a days it doesn't even require much of testing for them.

I only did it in case the EVO had a CANNED OBD2 system. Thankfully it did not and i was able to inspect the EVO with my connection. At that time CANNED system cars say like a 05 toyo 4 Runner were only able to get tested for CANN at the INS Stations. Now i can do both, so Im connected...

yeah your pretty much fine if you have no codes, and all your monitors are set for the obd2 check. Less the inspection station guys didnt get laid the night b4 and wants to be a D1ck your pretty much fine.
There are some guys that do go to the extreme. So i suggest if you dont go to a small shop that you do go for inspection on a REAL BUSY *** DAY. That way they wanna get you in and out fast and wont bother to take lots of time to check out your car.
