How To: Install Power Transformer for Laptop

I bought this transformer at some auto supply store, its your basic 1400w model that you either plug in your cigarette lighter plug, or you can hardwire it directly to you battery. I choose the easy way. also I can easily remove anytime I wanted.

drilled some 1/8" holes and ran zip ties.
mine were short so i double and tripled tied them

I also drilled a 5/8" hole on the bottom left to pass the power line

mounted

door closed

before you close the door just tuck it in

enough room for documents

everything took around max 15-20 minutes easy

I noticed it's getting a little hot, maybe because it's not standing straight up?

Don't know how big we are on cross posting to another forum, however, this is the write up I did for a similar thing in my WRX. I integrated it a bit more into the interior of the car.

They make car chargers for your laptop. I use it and its the best investment I have made for my e-tunes.

Just stumbled onto this thread. There's really no need for plastic ties and drilling the glovebox. Any car audio install shop can sell one a couple of strips of industrial-strength Velcro. The Velcro is removable, as well.

my only guess is to run it with the glove box open, this hould help with ventilation.

Do you really need a 1400w inverter for a laptop? That should be enough to run a full-size CRT and all associated components. I'm asking, because I use a small, simple, lightweight DC/DC device that plugs into the cigarette lighter and generates no noticeable heat.

Just to be clear, most laptops come with an external AC/DC converters. By using an inverter in the car, you're going DC/AC/AC/DC, when you could just run DC/DC and forget about the whole mess.
