valve spring question?

I just bought some hks 272's, I know it says that stock springs are OK. What are your recommendations, should I go ahead and buy a set of springs. If so will any evo springs work? Stupid question but will gsc springs work with my hks cams. I am assuming they will work fine.

Thanks for the help.

If they say stock springs are ok, then the ramp on them is not too aggressive. If you plan on increasing your rev limit, i would suggest you replace them. Any Evo springs from a reputable company will fit.

I have hks 272's now and I rev to 7600 on stock springs. No problems whatsoever. Would upgrading hurt? Not at all.

And yes you could get the GSC beehives that are meant to be used with the stock retainers.

I got hks 272 also and rev to 8500 on stock springs..was fine for a while but now i'm hearing a loud tick at warmup..Goes away after a little while so I'm planning on upgrading springs hoping that cures the tick. Do you guys recommend bc springs and retainers?

I haven't heard any thing good about the Brian crowler's. That sounds like a lifter to me, idk if rebleeding them would help?

u say lifter hu? mayb ill purchase new ones so most ticking goes away since they are not too much money. im retarded, i didnt research enough about bc springs and purchased some. tried to cancel but they were already shipped.( they shipped within 12 hours of purchase which is crazy!) i hope i get a good batch and have no problems.

but if i were you i would go ahead and buy springs. might as well do that while your valve cover is off. i ran my stock springs with the hks 272 for 40k+ and have no problems. recently bumped the rev limit to 8500 and everything is still good. but just to be safe, you never know, get some springs.

GSc is the way to go, and that ticking from the post above is most likely a lifter. I always upgrade them when I do cam, springs, and retainers

I am really surprised you aren't having worse issues. The stock springs are typically only good to about 8k rpm with the less aggressive cams such as the HKS 272. You will be fine on the stock springs unless you plan to rev over 8k rpm. I have been told that singles should be installed if revving between 8k-8800rpm on cams similar to the one in question. If revving to this rpm on a more aggressive cam with 11.0mm or bigger lift, or planning to rev 9k rpm and above, duals or beehives have been suggested. I've heard pretty much the same thing from local shops as well as different vendors/shops around the country. Why spend the money on cams and having them installed and question it's ability/reliability when a few hundred more bucks will get you a nice set of springs/retainers and you don't have to worry at all?
