Transfer case removal questions...

Posted a few questions in the Transfer Case removal How-To thread but didn't get any replies, so I'm posting a new one. Hope that's ok.

I have it almost all the way out. The transfer case slid 2 or 3 inches out on the shaft, and it seems to be stuck at that point. I can slide it back towards the tranny, then out again, and it always stops at the same point. Any thoughts??

Thanks

Yeah. It's not hitting anything, it just like it's getting stuck.

Did you push the motor back or try and lift the motor up a bit? Do you have the mounts off the motor?

Yeah that's not the problem - when I'm sliding the TC off the trans, it's stopping before it's all the way off. I can feel all the way around the TC it's not hitting anything.

Just got done chatting with Trevor at Sheps, he says the driver side stub shaft has to come out of the Tcase before it can be pulled out. Did you do this?

Yah.. I just assumed you did that already. You have to do the prep like you are going to pull the trans so all that has to come out prior..

pull the stub shaft out of the tranny/tcase with a slide hammer. its on the drivers side connecting to the drivers side axle.

Cool. Unfortunately I don't have a slide hammer yet (I thought i could take the shaft out once the Tcase was out). I have a long bar with a hole in the middle, threaded the bolt through the bar into the shaft and have been trying to get it out that way, but not much luck.... Guess I'll have to make a store run for a slide hammer after my new Tcase shows up.

u might also have to take the tail of the TC off, 4 bolts on the driveshaft side. i had to but then again i didnt take the subframe off. it will give u more wiggle room in the center tunnel.

Yeah I took that off. I figured it was easy enough to get off so why not.

I didn't use a slide hammer. I used a Pulley with a Tape roll the cardboard part. I put a washer and slide the bolt thru the pulley and washer. I screwed it in and bam popped right out.

LOL. I will have to take a pic. I didn't want to go through the hassle of the slide hammer. My buddy had some old parts lying around so he made it work. I will snap some pics will make sense. Think of it as a home made gear puller..
