BR under hood bushing install
Hey everyone, I have an MR and am in the middle of the shifter bushing install. It looks like the big bushing that is vertical doesn't have a spot for the cotter pin on the post, there was a clip I pulled off before taking the bushing out but it attaches to the bushing. I will attach some pictures to see if this is normal or if maybe I pulled off the wrong bushing. The linkage is attached to the smaller bushing that does have a place for the cotter pin so I'm guessing I pulled off the correct part. My kit also came with a little C clip I'm assuming goes on the post to prevent the linkage from slipping off but would like confirmation before continuing with the install.

BR big bushing and c clamp on the post, can't find a spot on the post to put the cotter pin through. Is this where the little c clamp goes?

Stock big bushing and clip.

Little c clip
Thanks for any help, I have been following the guide on here as my bushings didn't come with any instructions. I have searched so sorry in advance if this has been covered before.

What's the cotter pin? I did this last week on my Evo 7 (although it uses 2 small bushings of the same size).
The bushings mine came with had 2 c-clips as in your bottom picture. No idea what the funny-shaped pin is used for. I used needle-nose pliers to get the bushings out, and then put the bushing in, put the clip on and fitted the pin that came with the bushings. If you don't have the pins, then use the OEM ones that were already on there before installation. The vertical one is a bit further down, but it's the same deal. Pop the bushing out, put the new one in, clip on, pin in. Done.
Does your big bushing have its own clip? If not, then that might be it, although it doesn't look very sturdy. If it isn't, then maybe it's the retainer pin.

just did this to my Mr today once you pull out the bigger bushing you put the new one in with the side with the retainer toward the front of the car then you slide the large c clip around the other end after you have the new on in place on the stud then the little c clip goes in place of that strange paper clip looking thing around the end facing the trans to keep everything in place. Hope I could help!
