QuarterMaster 8 Leg Clutch Install HELP!!
QuarterMaster 8 Leg Clutch Install HELP!!
This is what I have going on, I installed a QuarterMaster 8 leg clutch and hydraulic throwout bearing then put the tranny in. My problem is figuring out how to test it. My car is not running yet because I still have more work to do. I tried putting it in gear and had a friend push the clutch in a little bit and the wheels still turn. I then pushed the clutch in more and still the same thing. I don't know what to do. I think I have the clutch installed correctly, but there is still some kind of problem. Any kind of advice or help will be great. I tried this once before and put too much pressure on the TOB and blew a seal which resulted in QuarterMaster sending me new ones. Now I am kind of scared to push on the clutch anymore, however I am pretty sure that the TOB is going into the clutch far enough. Thanks for any kind of help, pics will be great if you have them.

Basically, you are turning the wheels by hand and pushing the peddle in... right (since the car isn't running)? That is going to get you nowhere since the clutch is the first part of that system and the wheels are the last, with everything still binding them together. If you ensured the measurements were correct for your air gap, and you bled the slave, you will be fine. Everything beyond that will just be an adjustment to the peddle height once the car is operable.
what measurements are you talking about. So the car needs to be running so I can check if the clutch is engaged and disengaged. Thank you for the help

Alright, this was a bit of confusion on my part as well, but there is an actual clearance you have to measure for as per the instructions.
I learned this the hard way, but if your clutch is new you most likely need ZERO shims in the TOB regardless of whether of not it came with any with it. If it's not new or the measurements tell you the clearance is not right, you add shims starting from ZERO shims regardless of whether or not the TOB came shimmed or not. You won't know it's over shimmed or not until to turn the engine on and try to shift under idle. I tried your method and got similar results as you.
