GaBe511 Nov 2, 2011 08:33 PM

Great Vid again! Wish my fix was that easy, but the gears didn't help, so the blend door is to blame.

Piro Fyre Nov 2, 2011 09:07 PM

Man, you sure like weight savings. :D

Luckily, I didn't have to go through all that and just had to do the gears. Was really easy to do.

nice! bookmarked

SpoolinUp Nov 15, 2011 10:36 AM

For those of you on the cheap (a friend of mines Lancer) that only have the bent cable issue, take all the gears off and clean/re-grease them as shown in the video. For the stock cable, straighten out where it bent. Then with a razor knife and wire strippers strip off 2.5" of the black sheathing. Now grab the soldering iron and fluxed solder, solder the exposed area lighty. Glide the soldering iron from one end to another, only leaving a bit of solder on the cable. Your main goal is to weep the solder into the cable rather than have it on the outside. So far this has lasted a full year on his car. Results may vary but it sure can't hurt to try.

MileHighX Jan 15, 2012 06:22 PM

EvoSeanzie Feb 22, 2012 09:04 PM

SWeet. Not only is this going to fix my temperature knob, but by looking at the video and comparing it to the cable that controls the mode knob. I wasn't able to change it form blowing on my feet, and I had no defroster:-( all it took was my rotating the direction the cable was facing, and it turns like butter now! :-D

Just ordered the parts from Mitsu!! Yayy!!

sujinX Mar 20, 2012 10:55 PM

bump for this, sucks my blend door is the problem :-(

1000hpgsx Mar 26, 2012 09:17 AM

Perfect vid man, thanks. I bought my Evo with this problem. To the person that was asking for a place to buy the parts, I just ordered mine from eBay. All you have to do is put the part #'s in the search box.
The person that I bought the car from actually tried to turn the knob so hard they broke the shaft behind the knob. I read somewhere that you can take the whole control unit apart and replace just the shaft (which I also found on ebay) I'm sure I can figure it out but does anyone know of a video or how to on this? I've got a week before the parts get here and then I'll probably just tackle it myself anyway. but even so, someone might look at this thread later on so if anyone has the vid just go ahead and post it no matter when it is. Thanks again for the great video!

Any luck with this? I've had other people ask me if its possible.

I don't know of any video but I bought that shaft on ebay and was able to replace just that part in about an hour. It's straight forward. Take that whole unit right out of the car. It's been a month since I did it now and I'm trying to think of some tips but it's slipping my memory. I know you have to pretty much take that whole unit apart and make sure to look at the alignment of that shaft before you rip into it. There is a piece that connects to the shaft behind the circuit board, that I believe only goes on one way so that will help you get it back on right. If you look at the back of the circuit board then you'll be able to see what position that other piece needs to be in.
Hope this helped a little.

Vent mode selector knob not moving

Great post and video

My 2003 Lancer "vent mode selector knob" is impossible to turn and not moving. Does anyone else have this problem and
is there a simple fix or does it require a complete rebuild?

I don't have a how-to specific for that, but this one should get you close. Not sure of part # for that knob.

Life saver. Great vid!

logicMASS Jul 28, 2015 10:09 AM

I replaced the gears for the newer style and replaced the cable (mine was bent as well).

However, I think my main problem is the small gear that is connected to the blend door. It is hard as 'heck' to move. Even by hand with the other gear on. Anyone know a fix for this?

Thanks
