Great Vid again! Wish my fix was that easy, but the gears didn't help, so the blend door is to blame.
Man, you sure like weight savings. :D
Luckily, I didn't have to go through all that and just had to do the gears. Was really easy to do. |
very nice!

For those of you on the cheap (a friend of mines Lancer) that only have the bent cable issue, take all the gears off and clean/re-grease them as shown in the video. For the stock cable, straighten out where it bent. Then with a razor knife and wire strippers strip off 2.5" of the black sheathing. Now grab the soldering iron and fluxed solder, solder the exposed area lighty. Glide the soldering iron from one end to another, only leaving a bit of solder on the cable. Your main goal is to weep the solder into the cable rather than have it on the outside. So far this has lasted a full year on his car. Results may vary but it sure can't hurt to try.
great job, thanks
this is such a common issue too |
fck yea mine is almost done thanx for this vid

Cool. Yea its annoying going under my car to change the temp.
Awesome, now I can stop reaching under the dash and moving it by hand. You're the man "DontStopMe"
Could you guys provide a website for the parts? Thanks for the posts, my car has been doing this since I bought it..
This https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ega-guide.html has a lot of helpful info to accompany the awesome video.
Good video man, thanks for the writeup. I am getting sick of reaching down to help the gears move and hope this will fix it.
Lol i had the same problem on mine just opened it up and fix it would made it alot easiler if i would of saw this video before. It really helps tho. good looking great videos keep it coming
i have that problem now ... .. now i know what to do .. i have the orbital kit .. so i thought {thumbup}when i had installed it .. i had F#@* it up .. guess not!!! yey!
SWeet. Not only is this going to fix my temperature knob, but by looking at the video and comparing it to the cable that controls the mode knob. I wasn't able to change it form blowing on my feet, and I had no defroster:-( all it took was my rotating the direction the cable was facing, and it turns like butter now! :-D

Just ordered the parts from Mitsu!! Yayy!!
bump for this, sucks my blend door is the problem :-(
Perfect vid man, thanks. I bought my Evo with this problem. To the person that was asking for a place to buy the parts, I just ordered mine from eBay. All you have to do is put the part #'s in the search box.
The person that I bought the car from actually tried to turn the knob so hard they broke the shaft behind the knob. I read somewhere that you can take the whole control unit apart and replace just the shaft (which I also found on ebay) I'm sure I can figure it out but does anyone know of a video or how to on this? I've got a week before the parts get here and then I'll probably just tackle it myself anyway. but even so, someone might look at this thread later on so if anyone has the vid just go ahead and post it no matter when it is. Thanks again for the great video! |
Cool!

nice diy

I don't know of any video but I bought that shaft on ebay and was able to replace just that part in about an hour. It's straight forward..
Was getting ready to do this, but then I found out that Mitsubishi would replace mine on my '03 for free!

Vent mode selector knob not moving
Great post and video
My 2003 Lancer "vent mode selector knob" is impossible to turn and not moving. Does anyone else have this problem and is there a simple fix or does it require a complete rebuild? |
great vid will do this hopefully in a couple weeks :)
Thanks for the video. Friend of mine is having this very problem, will be ordering the parts today.

Life saver. Great vid!
I replaced the gears for the newer style and replaced the cable (mine was bent as well).
However, I think my main problem is the small gear that is connected to the blend door. It is hard as 'heck' to move. Even by hand with the other gear on. Anyone know a fix for this? Thanks |
