It will be interesting to see how this plays out against the 272.

Al's dynoflash sections has a really in depth ( with graphs ) description on the pros and cons of the 264 vs 272. he shows that the 264 can produce almost the same overall power while keeping the low end.

To answer your question. It would depend on wheather you install the cam on intake vs exhaust and in what combonation.......

I would see a 280/280 combination only benificial with a large engine displacement like any of the evo stroker kits.

just my 2 cents though.

IMHO it would be beneficial in any displacement 4G63 that has a big turbo (5k+ powerband), ported head and ported or aftermarket intake manifold. We will see soon enough

Can wait to see some numbers. Would it be safe to assume that a 280 cam profile would be useless on a stock evo?????

Lightbulb Sweet moonboots

with a 280 degree duration cam the valves are closed during 22.2% of a full revolution, compared to 24.5% using a 272, and 26.6% with a 264. Considering that there is more power available in the beginning of the combustion process, the 280 will capitalize using that early explosion and then move quickly to the next combustion/revolution to gain power.

IMHO it seems a short stroke, ultra-high RPM motor would take full advantage of the 280 setup, sacrificing any low-end torque you might have with a 272 in the name of huge top-end numbers.

It will be interesting to see what kind of numbers different intake/ exhaust combos generate on stroked and stock bottom ends alike.

cant wait

Would make sense because it is a top end camshaft, and with their springs, headstuds and bolts you could be at the 8500-9k rev range to take advantage of the shaft.

Interesting to see how the idle is with these. Looks like Al will have to come up with a new idle flash.
