is this setup something that would only be used on a race car?

 

I dont see why. I shift light is a good thing to have on a daily driver just incase your right foot gets a little lazy and decides not to lift off...

Im more interested in the launch control and shifting with out letting off the gas

trying to figure out how hard it is on the engine

 

It is something that is NOT designed only for race. I ran a shift light in my car that I drove on the street. I liked it mainly for when I went to the track. Set it it a few hundred RPM before you want to shift so that way you can hit your mark.
