No, you won't need a kit for the alpine, just take the brackets off of the stock radio and transfer it on to the Alpine unit. it will fit perfectly.
The Door & Rear deck speaker openings are 6 3/4" in diameter, and most aftermarket component speakers and coaxial speakers are 6 1/2" in diameter.
I used 1/2" MDF board to make custom mounting brackets. This also gave me the perfect clearance for the front woofer from the window. The stock speaker is only 2" deep. Most aftermarkets are 2 1/2", it worked out perfect.
I traced the stock speaker on to the MDf which is a square shape, and then traced a 6.5" circle in the middle. Cut it all out and your done.

I recently installed that radio into my MR and it sounds pretty good with the factory speakers. The radio is really nice, and the ability to put hundreds of MP3 files on one cd is great! You can select any color for the buttons and its easy to match the amber Evo interior.
One thing - I can't figure out how to adjust the dimmer control when the lights are on, its tough to see. It's either off or on. If you figure it out send me a PM!!

Keep in mind that the screws for the factory brackets from the stock radio were applied with "locktight" and require some impact to remove. Its easy to strip them if your not careful.
Good luck.

You don't need a kit. However, I recommend getting BOTH harnesses from Circuit City. They have the typical harness and then an Alpine specific harness that allows everything to plug in and no splicing required. It's great!

well guys my Alpine CDA9835 is on, for about 2 months now. The factory speakers are not that bad considering they are stock and I think only rated at 15w. Im keeping them for now but I think Im also getting new ones later on.

But look what I got today! I cant wait to make these babies cry out LOUD I know it is a looooot of weight but I dont race my car at all and Im just going for the looks right now.

I also bought a JL10001 1000-Watt mono amplifier but they didnt have it in stock so I have to wait until saturday for that one.

Dude,

Get JL XR650cs front comps, like for only $250 or less you'll be amazed at its clarity and balance. And it handles pwr like a champ!!!

I had mine for last 4 yrs and moved and tored and resealed the midrange woofers and they still kick ****!!! I'm pwr them 85w rms w/o any problems!

German engineering, that is for the speakers - kicks ****!

Most of sound is faded to the front XR comps, for the rear generic coaxial will do - just for rear "fill".

You should do all JL since you got JL subs and amps.

GL!

I have the alpine with the iPod interface. It's great if you don't want to pick specific stuff, as the single line display is a bit tedious. I dig having my iPod running around in the car with a good interface (not a big fan of the FM-tuner dealio.) Even as somewhat of an audio "nerd", with all the car noise and a decent bitrate, I'm not at all disappointed with the sound quality.
(a bit off topic, but this thread seemes to have "evolved" a bit)
