This is info from a friend as far as I can recall, I myself didn't make it to the event:
The orange Evo8 blitzed everyone else with a 2m29s lap time.
Followed by the two silver Evo8s, both with sub 2m40s (Evo 1-2-3 finishing position).
Followed by an STi with 2m38s, then ITR 2m41-42s.
For lack of a nicer way to put it, the rest of the field didn't clock respectable times; some were even above 3m. Which is, truthfully, quite shameful.
The orange evo was driven by a professional.
Having said that, this isn't a representation of "a competition"; my friend complained that the event was badly organized, with only 20 or 30 cars being given the privilege of participating in the timed trials. I know he's capable of a flat 2m40s at least. Also knew two other STi's capable of sub 2m40s that didn't take part in the trials.
zYn:
This event is once in a blue moon kind of event; the more common ones are the open track day. Check www.malaysiangp.com.my for the calendar of the open days. Anyone is welcome to visit and see. I just attended the 19 December track day.
EDIT: Sepang is roughly about 30-40min from KL. It's right beside the KL International Airport. If you happen to drive, you can participate in the open track day; just bring a helmet and RM130.

Hi Hendrik...
Any idea what boost Desmond was running and whether transponders were used? Considering Denis Lian managed a transponder-verified 2'29" in a mostly-standard GT3, I would estimate a street Evo would require at least 420 bhp to be that close. Nonetheless, a good showing... go Evo!

NoTiGuy,
It costs about S$110-120. From EGR, an Australian Company. Thot I saw them at ST POwered last month - the 3 evos that terrorised the track are from that workshop.
