^^ yeah, my question too. illegal here in va but i was hoping to get something that fits behind the rear view mirror or uses a sensor that notifies a concealed LCD unit.

I think you need to have it right in the middle of your w/shield, it works well picking up radar in the rear that way and has a long visibility.

Wow, it's even able to detect the cop when it's not in the line of sight? Does the laser bounce off other cars making it visible?

Yup 23 south.... cops are always there. The only way they can get you without warning is with laser.... if they are using radar (Ka) the 8500 will warn you a 1/4 before even around curves. Its real sensitive and pickes up the Ka when it bounces off the other cars.

escort's saying they're only banned in dc and in va. straight from their site:

Are radar detectors legal?
Yes! Radar detectors are completely legal to use in non-commercial vehicles in 49 states. Virginia and Washington DC are the only places in the United States that currently ban radar detectors. Radar detector use in commercial vehicles has been prohibited in the U.S. since 1995 and radar detectors are also illegal in most Canadian provinces. We do not track detector regulations in other countries.

ummm hold the phone....I dont really wanna start a war right off the bat this weekend but the V1 is alright but nothing more. 2 independant tests are done each year and it usually finishes in the top 5. It by no means compares to the passport 8500 x50 or the Bel RX 65. To read the results for yourself please visit....

To the person who wanted a battery powered one you are wasting your money my friend. With cops using Instant ON Ka band now you will be tagged and not even given a reach around.

Might I also recommend a radar detector is useless these days without a appropriate LASER Jammer. I use the Blinder - M20 and it has saved my *** over 6 times in less than 5 months traveling through DE, PA, and MD.

And finally if you live in VA / DC and you wanted to get a concealed radar detector it has to be profesionally installed I would recommend the BEL version or the K50. And while there at it have them install the Blinder as well a cop can not detect the Blinder, unlike the one that Passport makes called the Shifter.

And I guess just because I'm paranoid I also have VEIL on my front head lights which basically reduces the range of a cops laser gun and also acts as a protector from scratches its not bad and I recommend it.

Sorry I'm a freak and I do way to much reading on this stuff
