"UN" OFFICIAL WINGLESS EVOS THREAD!!!
Wingless questions
n00b here. This is my 1st post, so please be patient. I really like the wingless look. Very clean. Very nice.
What are the actual options for going wingless?
1. Swap lid with an RS.
2. Buy a new RS trunk lid.
3. Have a body shop weld in the holes in my VIII lid and repaint it.
4. Does a plain Lancer trunk lid fit?
5. Does anyone make a set of nice plastic trim pieces that cover the trunk lid holes? Think of the small "fin" on the roof of an S4 or M5. Even a nice thin piece of flat molded plastic, in black - could be painted, would make a nice cover for the holes.
6. Any other inexpensive creative ideas for covering up the holes, but still keeping them in case I want to put the wing back on some day?
Thanks,
Jim

1.) a regular Lancer ES trunk will fit.
2.) go with a carbon fiber trunk.
3.) get a few strips of vinyl the same color as your car from a local shop and cover the holes with those.
good luck.
I think I'm going to get some of the 3m clear-bra material that's made for sticking to cars to protect them. It's almost invisible and is really thin depending on what size you get and should stand up to weather and washing.
w3rd!

no the liquid on the ground is not from my car

and just in case anybody ask, those are RallyArmor flaps with logos flipped toward the inside.
i just plugged the holes on the trunk up with little rubber pieces my friend at a body shop gave me. looks kind of ghetto, but that's if anybody can actually notice them.

I'm so pleased that I stumbled across this support group for winglessness. I thought I was the only person that simply could not develop an appreciation for The Wing. Love the car - hate The Wing.
You'all have given me the courage to go wingless. I've driven my new-2-me '03 VIII for two weeks now and honestly tried to fall in love with the The Wing, but just could not. In fact, I had taken the wing off the first night after I had bought the car, but could not figure out what to do with the awful holes. So, The Wing promptly went back on. I thought - and my "friends" told me - that only an idiot would remove The Wing from an EVO. The Wing is now off for good, thanks to all of you!
Comment: I'd like to see some close-up photos of how each of you has delt with the holes left in the trunk lid. I'll post mine as soon as I get my hands on a camera.
Question: w/o the weight of The Wing the trunk lid attempts to launch itself into oblivion when opened. On my previous car the trunk lid springs were adjustable. Is there any way to adjust or "lighten" the springs on the trunk lid?
Thanks,
Jim

haha yea my trunk just pops the hell up everytime i open it, i dont really mind though. u couuld always open the trunk with the key and control the movement
i'll take some pictures later to let u see what my plugs look like close up. just drop by a body shop with a friendly owner and look for these lying around on the ground/shelves etc....most body shops have a crapload of these plugs.
if i do decide to go wingless for a while i'll sell my wing and get a black lancer trunk or somethin (last time i read about it it fits the Evo)
