Just took a little bit closer look in the car and wondered. "How about I hook it up to the Dash Clock since its closer to the windshield then the Cig Lighter."

Now a Couple things:

1. Will the Clock work?
2. How hard is it to get in the dash to do the wiring?

I hardwired my Passport 8500.

I tapped into the iginition wire on the steering column (radar detector automatically comes on when I turn the car on) and ran the wire behind the a-pillar and up and behind the headliner. There's enough room in the headliner to stuff the wire in without having the headliner look like crap. I mounted my radar detector left of the rear view mirror and as high as I can possibly get it. Let me know if you need more details.

If you do a search on here for wiring diagram, there are multipule post that show which wire on the wire harness behind the steering column is for ignition.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=109932

You don't need to do anything special to get to the ignition wire. Removing the driver side lower knee bolster might help.

You won't need anything too complicated. Taking of the knee bolster is just using screws or bolts (i can't remember). Laying upside down (feet facing headliner, head facing front of car) on your driver seat might help assess the situation. Locate the ignition wire, and tap it. I suggest cutting away the sleeve until you have enough bare wire to wrap the radar detector power wire to it. I also suggest soldering the wires and wrapping with electrical tape or heat sleeve.

Other than a soldering iron, I think you should be able to get to everything with standard automotive tools.

I'll try to get under my steering column tonight and snap some pics. I should have them posted up later tonight or early tomorrow morning.

Hope this helps.

Yeah bro thanks for the link and taking the time out for the pictures. I think Im gonna splice into the wires with my connector things (Cant remeber the name). I used em on my Focus and it was a lot easier to remove when I sold the focus. Just cut and leave the rest in their in tact still.

Wire The Positive Wire To The Fuse Box. There Is A Empty Slot Right In The Middle, Not Sure The Slot #, But It Is A Switched 12v Source. You Can Use A Fuse Tap(autozone) Or Just Wrap The Wire Around A Post On A Spare Fuse And Stuff It In The Fuse Box, And Ground The Blk Wire To A Chassis Bolt. And The Radar Will Go On When The Ignition Is On.
Done, No Need To Tap Any Existing Wires.
