Then throw your evo away or trade in to me . Evo was made to be dirty.

I am body man, and have worked for a PPG paint jobber for the past 3 years. I can assure they do not use single stage on any new cars anymore. For 1 - pearls and metallics are sh*t when it comes to a single stage, and thus the car would not be able to repaired correctly (blended) if it were. 2 - if you get some scratches that can't be just buffed out - you can wetsand the scratches out and then buff. Sanded clearcoat looks white - and color of your car would show up on the sandpaper that you sanded with. Thats is why it is not a single stage paint. I do admit though..they could have put a better finish on the car. Way to much orange peel for a factory finish.

If they saved money like that and made the paint sparkle a bit more, then maybe the Evo would be better than a Kia.
I am happy that you feel good about spending 30K+ on a car with a crappy paintjob. Please dont tell me it's all about the AWD, the turbo, and the seats or other accessories. I would expect all that plus the paintjob. It's the whole package.

Kias are around 10k just so you know. Mitsu could have afforded a better painjob for the extra 20k including all other options you have mentiond

Actually, I spent around $25,500 after tax, title, and license. It doesn't matter, though.

I bought the car for the performance and practically. That's the "whole package" for me. Being able to blow the doors off of cars with twice the number of cylinders and half the number of doors puts a smile on my face.

I know how much Kia's cost. Also, the Evo is assembled in Japan. Most Honda's that are sold in the US (and other "comparable" Japanese cars) aren't. They're made here in the US. Cars assembled in Japan are typically sprayed with a cheaper paint job because, well, that's how they do them. People in Japan don't typically drive their cars like Americans do. They put a lot less mileage on their cars every year and because of this, they don't "require" a thicker, more durable paint job.

Now I never said the Evo's paint was great. It's not. I don't care, though. When I'm behind the wheel keeping the tachometer between 4,000 and 7,500 RPMs, I don't care what my paint looks like. It's just too much fun to drive.

Agree, all matter that evo is fun to drive even though I don't have one.

i've had my car for 8 months (silver). it was waxed from the dealer. from the time i bought it, i only washed it once with no soap after winter and second time the last weekend with soap. it was DIRTY. after all the dirt was gone the car is still SHINY and blinds the hell outta me when i look at it in the sun (seriously, that **** hurts my eyes). it still even has some wax left and water beads off. no swirls, but paint is a lil bit rough, so i need to whip out my meguiars claybar and then wax the biatch. i think when ppl wash or wipe it too often, that's when it starts to swirl, so my motto is "it's an evo, leave it dirty!" i agree with too much orange peel look of the paint. i had to replace front bumper after accident and i think it actually looks better than stock paint. but i've seen other cars with the peel look too, so. anyway, i do care about how it looks, but at the same time i don't give 2 ***** if it's dirty, so...

mine's black and pain in the *** to keep clean. I wash it at least once a week but haven't waxed it yet and still looks as it was brand new. If the paint goes then I'll get a custom paint job.

My 03 has clearcoat. How do I know? I have color sanded and buffed parts of it. I doubt Mitsu uses a single stage paint. Like it was mentioned earlier, clearcoat is a standard now.

The cars do have clearcoat. If you apply wax and the applicator starts turning the color of the car then you do not have clearcoat.

if your gonna shell out the 25k or 30k or w/e it is to buy the car, put a little more in to get a nice paint job if it really matters that much..

The Evo paint is not high quality and chips fairly easily BUT the paint in my M3 has more orange-peel in it. if you really look at the finish in any mass produced cars they are not the smooth.

Someone out there have body damage or paint damage want to try something like this?
I used some Goo Gone to get the rest of the glue off from the badges. Guess what... the cloth was red. When I wax it doesn't get red, but i picked up some red when I used the goo gone. Oh, and I barely rubbed hard at all. I say no clear coat at least on red.
