Also note the cutouts in the gauge panel. they are matched to the Evo on the back side of the other panel where it mounts to the dash.
Someone contact 42nd and ask why if it bothers you. But the panel I ordered is the EVO specific panel and it came to me black.

then you straight got the wrong one.......thier site specifically shows pictures and claims it is color matched........they sent you the wrong one or you ordered the wrong one......either you are wrong....or they are doing false advertising...which is it??? They are about to loose a sale if they are doing that........im really hoping you just don't what you are talking about.
I ordered it over the phone. If it is the VW one it would not fit perfectly as this one clearly does. I will email them and ask. I dont understand why everyone on these forum assumes that you dont know what you are talking about if they disagree. I got the same reaction when I posted dyno results and had to post the dyno sheet and was still told I was full of s**t. But I will email 42nd to clarify cause now I am intersted. But I gaurantee I ordered an EVO SPECIFIC panel. I am not an idiot.
Email sent. I will post their reply when it is recieved. They have excelletn customer service and always replied promptly when I sent previous emails. Should know tomorrow.
I find it funny that ppl tend to get a little heated over stuff like this...I ordered the panel off of 42's website...it is definitely Evo-specific - it fits perfectly and is a very well made piece, but it is black. I personally am very happy - I don't think I would want it colormatched. Maybe you can choose between the two, I don't know. I would also be interested to see what they say, though.

why find it funny, it more like sad........these forums are riddled with bunk info and it gets old sometimes..this company specifically sates it is colormatched for the evo, and then people post up pictures and come out of left field with info that goes against the grain.......its deceptive and makes it harder for people to acquire parts and knowlwdge with everyones wrong ways/info........im not trying to start anything, i just want the right info thats all.......

Here is the VW panel. Note: It does not have the EVO SPECIFIC cutouts that are clearly shown in my panel on the pics I posted on page 1.
Also note: the pic I posted of it installed in the car. The panel looks black.
Here is where I will admit that I was wrong about the color. It is gray. When driving the car in to work and not in the full sun, the gray almost matches. In full light (or in the flash of the camera) It looks black.
I am man enough to admit I was wrong. Albeit, So were the rest of you. It clearly looks black. I had to put my face 1" away to see the gray.
Argument over.

Hey guys, Evan from 42 here. I've been linked here by about a half dozen of you!
Our EVO panel is colormatched. It is NOT a generic black. In fact our paintshop spent weeks finding a match to this color because Mitsubishi doesn't publish or sell this paint code. As you can tell from the pictures on our website, the panel does match. Up close:

Pretty much everyone can agree the color of the interior trim is a dark charcoal - very close to black but not quite. Not only is the color a bit ambiguous, but it's also difficult to photograph.
The original pictures Thomas posted are unfortunately both a bit misleading. The first one has a bright flash. A camera flash can instantly skew the appearance of a color based on the object's texture. A glossy object will reflect more light and seem lighter in value than an object with a softer texture. If my art school days taught me anything, it's that the lens is a very different beast than the human eye. The next two pictures Thomas posted were taken without a flash, and the dark light of both pictures make the panel seem black. Fair enough.
Also, just to better prove my point - when I originally researched making these panels I had Mitsubishi dig and dig to make sure there are no extraneous part #s out there for this console. There is in fact only one part number and only one EVO console. Also, we are still selling the original batch of panels we made. All panels were painted at once with the same batch of paint. We have over a hundred of these panels installed out there and not a single complaint of bad color. The only way that Thomas's panel could be a different color is if he has some kind of 'freak' panel.
So, my answer to the argument:
The panel is colormatched.
Neither of the photographs posted show the panel in it's true light.
I want to apologize to Thomas for this post. It's never my intention to come on a forum and rip on a customer's photographs - which is basically what I did to defend our product. Your photos don't need to be wall-art quality. In fact, your enthusiasm is great and I always like seeing posts of our products installed by customers no matter the picture quality. Keep on modding!
Any questions, comments or whatever you may need feel free to post or email me.

Thanks Evan at 42nd. I stand by the product and love it. I appreciate the quick reply and as you thought, yes the flash and lighting I think are the culprit. Either way I am impressed with the quality and fitment and would recommend it to anyone intersted.
Let me take some pics without the flash to post.
Here is 42nd reply to my email,
Thomas, thanks for emailing us.
I just took a look over at EVOM at the thread and your pictures. Our panel is color matched to the EVO’s charcoal gray color interior panels. It is not a basic black.
You definitely have the EVO panel, but looking at your pictures it looks like there’s a color difference. As you can see in the pictures on our website, the panel matches the OEM part quite well. When researching this product I forced Mitsubishi to confirm with me that there were no extraneous part numbers for this console out there. The one we used for matching is the only one available thankfully. We have done only one batch of EVO panels. The original 200 were painted all at once from a single batch of paint. It is not likely that the panel you have is any different than any of the other 199. So far all of the pictures I have seen of our panel installed show a perfect match to the surrounding console as designed. That said, the only explanation I can offer is that you may have a ‘freak’ console.
Does your console appear to be any different in color than the other charcoal color components on the interior of your car?
Did you use the flash when taking the pictures?
A camera’s flash can mislead two objects true color depending on how the flash of light reflects off the two objects. A shinier object will appear lighter than an object with a softer finish which will appear darker. I would be interested in seeing a picture of your setup in the daytime sunlight. I think some of the EVOM members would be interested in seeing pictures in the daytime as well. I have gotten about 5 emails about this, so I am off to answer a few more and then I will post on EVOM…
