There called thermo wraps. They lower the temperature a little bit. If I remember right.

Why did you put your breather filter all the way on the other side beside the power steering fluid?

wrapping the exhaust manifold & turbo keeps the exhaust gas hot so it maintains its velocity, which makes the turbo spool faster and increases horsepower (though not by much). it also helps keep engine bay temperatures down, which also increases horsepower. the wrap on the radiator hose helps prevent the exhaust heat from directly affecting the water temperature.

its a fairly easy & cheap mod to do, especially if you already have the manifold off for some other reason, and it is a must if you are removing the heat shield. i think it looks good, its a pure race look (btw, you can achieve basically the same results with a good ceramic coating, but those are more expensive)

anyways your engine bay looks pretty nice - the clear cam gear cover is a definite highlight

I didn't want the oil dripping down out of the filter over there, and I also put a "catch can" that I made out of a generic fuel filter, so I had to have room for that.

Thanks for all the comments guys, positive and negative..... As for the header wrap, it was kind of a personal issue with not wanting to expose the radiator hose to the extreme temperature that the header puts off without a heat shield. It is Thermotec Exhaust Insulating Wrap for those interested, and it is kind of a fiberglass material that is extremely heat resistant. Some say that it helps spool the turbo faster by reducing the scavenger effect, and keeping all the hot air in the exhaust stream where it belongs. As for the radiator hose, I just wanted to protect it a little more, so I wrapped it with some of Thermotec's radiant heat wrap which supposedly is effective up to like 2000 f, but who knows.

I just realized that my cam gear cover is really dirty in that pic... maybe I'll post up another shot of it all squeeky clean.
