Brother left sunroof open in rain...
My brother is a moron and he left my sunroof open while it poured. The center console and the right side of the drivers and the left side of the passenger seat were both pretty soaked. This happened Saturday night, the seats are dry now, but I'm worried about mold. Should I have them professionally cleaned? I was quoted at $40 for a shampoo of the carpets and seats. Ideas?
I don't know if a simple shampooing would get into the seat deep enough to reach the foam that was soaked. I would just tell a reputable detail shop what happened. They probably have a special process for situations like yours.
Go to a carwash and use those huge industrial vaccums and it should be able to suck up any excess water stuck in the seats.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to remove your seats so you can gain access to any crevices where water got sandwiched.

The best thing to do is to get your car steam cleaned, preferably from a truck-powered machine, since they are the strongest. Second your going to want to get an anti-microbial mildicide spray. That will kill any mold or mildew(and any smell) that may be between your carpet, padding and the floor. Thats the process I use when treating water damage to carpeted or non-carpeted areas, so it should work just as well for you.
It really was my brother. He's 17, I let him take it to see his gf an hour away cause it was really rainy and I knew the car would be safe. I took it to the local detail shop and they said my best bet was just to take a vaccuum to it and try to suck out any residual water. They could do it but he said it won't really be any different. He said if I starts to smell they can do an o-zone treatment, but that's pretty intensive and costs around $80. I'm gonna take a car wash vacuum to it first, then see what happens.
if you push on the seats and they are still damp...get em steam cleaned. lift the carpet on side of the car, if the bottom is wet and floor is damp get it dry and steam clean.
otherwise you should be fine.
you know what will smell worse than all this....forgetting your wetsuit in the trunk.
