take a picture on a tripod with the hood up and down, and layer them and use the eraser tool and erase a layer....i think that is how you do, never actually done it before

basically thats it. you get the fade effect from using the feather option.. the hard part is getting 2 identical pictures

Like others said, you'll need 2 exact photos (tripod works great) one with the hood off and one with it on. Then use photoshop to cut the hood and paste it into a second layer, where you can fade it out.
