getting ripped off?

well lets say i backed into a tree at about 20-30 mph....anyway i got the accolade front and rear evo 9 bumpers and dropped the car off to get done at the local body shop. needed a new trunk cause the bumper bar crushed into the spare tire well and the trunk was done for.

well ok the estimate was 1500.. this was for painting the front and rear bumper and the rear right quarter was creased a little because the inpact kicked the original bumper out on the side and creased it up at the body line running at the top of the door.

so anyway dropped off on monday and they started on wednesday. i saw it sitting outside the place today and I stopped to take a look at it and the rear is great left the emblems off and painted the diffuser satin black the way i wanted it looked great. then i roll around to the fron and there are cracks and yellow showing on the edges and in a few other spots. not to mention the bubbles below the headlights. they said it was from the porus bumper and when they backed it the paint was sucked in basically......

well none the less they are going to paint the front again and get it acceptable...okbut the big kicker was the price...

435$$ trunk lid unpainted mitsubishi was 358.00
15.9 hours body labor $42.00 an hour $667.80
14.8 hours paint labor $42.00 an hour $621.60
paint and materials $310.80
frame labor $125.00
shop supplies $36.80
10.00 sublet ???

total with tax..

$$$2339.46$$$

WTF

$1500.00 estimate i thought was high

What do anyone else think??

Thanks for any input

Chris

when you signed off agreeing to allow them to work on your car you also signed (in fine print) saying the price they gave was an estimate and you are responsible for any further cost.

uh oh. never make a large money transaction without some paper in between you. Unfortunately, you may learn the hard way.

Sounds about right. The first thing I thought was how low the estimate was, once you said it ended up costing 2400 it made more sense.

Body shops suck.

In a bailment you are liable for "reasonable repair costs", nothing more

file a claim with your insurance... sure your rates will go up, but you are going to pay for it either way

Man they got you good. Always get a written estimate when going to a body shop. Now that they're f*cking you make sure that everything is perfect before you take the car out of there. Pick it up during the day when the sun is out so you can make sure that their are no problems with the paint. Sucks man but you live you learn.

yeah... should have gotten a written estimate... but even then they still could have upped the price as one poster said above, it's just an estimate... I'm assuming that no insurance is involved...

tell them you aint bending over on this one and bring up the initial estimate cost. But always get this stuff in writing first.
