cut out the bumper part except for a strip down the center, and riveted the mesh to the center strip. The center strip also has the attachment to the rear bumper reinforcement, so it doesn't move or shake.

I'm going to have to ammend that last one. The IX would be the best if you didn't have to toss out the crash beam. I dig the weighloss but if I get tapped from behind and the unibody takes damage I would hate life!

Looking closely at your pic, it seems that you left a verticle strip(where you riveted the mesh and bumper attach.). Is that correct?

Yes theres a strip still left behind the plate and the crash beam is still there as well, you can kinda see it behind the tag.
