Version 7 hood and bumper

I tried this in the Newb section with no results and plenty of searching. I'm looking at buying an '03 Evo 8.

But, I'm not crazy about the version 8 hood and bumper. Sorry, I'm 35 and the park bench on the trunk will have to go too. So, I'm wondering if I can put a version 7 hood and bumper cover on a USDM Evo 8? Going back through the vendor classifieds, I think it was Bulletproof that sells them and says you can... but I thought I read somewhere that we got the pointy front end to pass the 5mph crash test. If that's the case how does the v 7 bumper cover fit over the USDM bumper rail? Or do I have to install a JDM rail?

And I've never had a fibergalss hood, will it be all flexy and lame?

Thanks guys, Z

Yes its doable cause I just finished my evo VII conversion. Pictures will be up soon. The USDM crash bar WILL fit if you trim a little and everything bolts on perfectly. Thats for the front bumper and i'm not sure about the rear cause I havne't installed that yet. The hood you'd have to get either a carbon fiber from seibon or something. HOOD doens't fit perfect from seibon and I still need hood pins. If your baller you can drop 1300 on a hood from Z1auto.com Adam hooked me up with the Front bumper and lip. But the hood was too expensive for me

More like $1525.00 plus $155 shipping! I have to assume it's aluminum though.

bulletproofautomotive.com has the hood in fiberglass for $650. I'm sure CF is lighter but which is more user friendly? I assume CF is paintable? I only ask because it seems everyone leaves it unpainted (bling factor?). I don't have any experience with either material - recommendations? Is fibergalss flexy?

The banner across the top of this page shows the v 7 conversion at body-kit.com but they don't show their prices - wtf. Probably not cheap.

Thanks, Z

there is a fiberglass Evo VII hood we can get from Cusco Japan that is more affordable - used to have a couple but they sold and we never reordered.

Cusco's fibeglass is spot on - excellent fit and finish.

The carbon hoods you see from Seibon, etc are fiberglass skeletons with carbon overlays - yes can easily be painted as well. There are carbon/carbon JDM hoods ofered froma few Japanese firms (HKS Kansai, Monster Sport), but they get very pricey.
