Best Aerodynamics set up for Evo 8?
Best Aerodynamics set up for Evo 8?
there are numerous products that are available for the evo 8, from canards to lips, to diffusers etc. i was wondering what the best set up would be for creating downforce at high speeds and overall best performance? im looking for something for either the oem body kit or aftermarket, but mainly oem.
i know the cwest is a good kit, but im not sure if i want to remove my crash bars. i have the buschur exhaust and from what i been told it does not look good with the evo ix rear bumper, so that might be out of the question. please post helpful info. thanks!

Splitter, canards, rear diffuser, vortex gen. Am I missing anything? All of those together should work best. Don't really know what else you could do. I'm going with CWest myself. The splitter for their front bumper is pretty tight too.

thanks guys, keep the posts comming!! the only aftermarket kit i know that is wind tested is cwest, so i guess its either cwest or adding things to the stock kit. the only thing i dont like is the way canards look on the stock set up, but if they perform well, i guess might go that way. the thing that im getting for sure is the vortex generator, after that i would like to know whats best from people's experiences.
one thing i wanted to add is i need to repaint my front bumper, sideskirts, and rear bumper due to scratches, should i just stick with them or go aftermarket since i need to paint everything anyways? is it too much of a risk going aftermarket and not having crash bars?

Veilsides kits are tested as well and are proved to be functional...you couldnt pay me to put the version 2 kit on my car.... looks like the front end of an old locomotive....you could sweep up little children into you intercooler and they will never be heard from again
...but the Ver. 1 isnt bad IMHO

You are going to want to get the car as low to the ground as possible at speed and you are going to want to control the rake of the car as much as possible. That is basically free down force. You also want to seal the bottom of the car off as much as possible to keep air from going underneath it at the front bumper and rocker panels.
I would start with a splitter and canards. There is a sweet spot in height off the ground for the splitter to make good downforce but, I think that varies from car to car. I would also get the vortex generator for the roof and some type of wicker bill for the wing. Possibly one of those rear wing risers like Veilside makes to get the wing farther into the air stream and less effected by turbulence from the roof.
Varis makes some pans that attach to the rocker panels and help to smooth out the bottom of the car. Some type of diffuser that seals off the parachute of a rear bumper would be good as well. I know Vishnu makes one of those.
I don't think it will look good but, it should make some downforce and probably serious amounts of drag as well. You might want some smaller mirrors to try and decrease frontal area but, I don't know how crazy you want to get. After all it is shaped like an upside down bath tub on top of a refrigator box and you can only make that so aerodynamic.

I'm almost positive that the Voltex Kit is wind tested as well. It is a very functional kit as evidenced by the Original Runduce EVO. It is a bit extreme for a street driven EVO however. Also the Ings +1 kit is most likely wind tested and very functional as well.

Twisted
this is the kit i'd go with (minus the rear wing)http://www.veilside.com/veilsideusa/...u/Lancer8F.jpg,
cf vortex gen, cf wicker bill for the rear wing, smaller cf mirrors and you'll need a lower suspension set up (Megan coilovers w/ EDFC) to bring it all lower to the ground and lessen the air traveling underneath.
i'd stay away from canards, myself, only because my car is daily driven and some jackass would break them off.
don't forget the rear wing is adjustable and you can dial it in for more downforce, but like hotrod said you can only do so much...

from a performance/ functionabity aspect (cooling, aerodynamics etc...) i have to say that the Valdisport front bumper is the best performing, valdi is rich in history and tradition and proven on the japanese touring circuts..
i would also have to lean towards Ing's+1, Varis, and Voltex as well, all very high quality functional peices.......

I think almost all JDM "aero kits" are wind tunnel tested and functional, which is why it's a no no to mix and match kits. Most USDM "body kits" are not, with the exception of APR products.
what does everyone thing about chargespeed kit? im probably going to get the seibon ts2 hood (im sure its not made for aerodynamic improvement, but i just wanted to state this so people can consider it when recommending a body kit).
as for the oem kit, what diffusers are recommended for the rear bumper, so far im looking at the vishnu or just get an ix rear bumper. another thing im looking at is the carbing front underpanel, but im not sure if it will work with my buschur intercooler.
all in all, what would everyone's recommendation be, stick with the oem evo 8 kit or go aftermarket?
