Alcantara Steering Wheel

Has anybody had their steering wheel re-covered in Alcantara? How
much would something like this cost? Where can you have something
like this done? Does removing the leather rip-up the poly-eurathane
underneath it? Or does the leather just come right off if you cut the
stitches out?

The Alcantra will fade and wear terribly fast, why would you want to do this?

Aren't the seats made out of alcantara? There are cars outside
of the US that you can get with alcantara (like the Elise).

Yes they use alcantra for seating, but I was referring to on a steering wheel. Leather wears, fades, and gets distressed on steeing wheels in time, alcantra would do it even faster

there is a guy on NASIOC that would do STi steering wheels and they were THE $HIT!
I'll dig him up and see if he can do EVO wheels if you like?

They don't wear as bad as you think...though.....you have to be a little more carefull about whats on your hands when grabbing the wheel.
I can only imagine how great it would feel to Grab a Alcantra wheel.

I tried to find references to Alcantara fading or not being durable online, but I couldn't find any. Everything I read said that Alcantara is a very durable. I would think that a modern synthetic material would be more durable than leather.

Then why would it be that Porsche is putting them in the new GT3?

LA EVO 8, does your friend have an alcantara steering wheel on an Evo or another car? Where did he get rewrapped? I called some upholstery places and none of them said they could reupholster steering wheels.

I would soo much appreciate it if you could find that guy too, i have always dreamed of having my steering wheel in alcantara like the M3 CSL and the GT porches, they do last long: especially if you take good care of them..

Awwww man, that does look pretty dope...One thing about the interior that pisses me off is the driver side door panel...I don't know if it's just the way I postion myself, but I have a white patch where my elbow hits...Stranger, I have two evolution friends who do not have the same problem, haha...Do you have any idea what the labor is on the wheel appoulstry?
