My Modified Valentine One

So, I saw this done by quite a few other people and I decided to tackle it myself. I wasn't happy with distinguishing the visual warnings of my V1 at night between the different bands, so something needed to be done obviously I also wasn't happy with people knowing I had a radar detector during those night drives because that little bugger would illuminate my whole cabin! The solution? Getting a concealed display and modifying it to fit MY needs. I changed out the LEDs for 3 out of the 4 bands to easily distinguishable colors and now night time warnings are not only colorful, but very easy to determine.

I mounted the concealed display where the hazard light button used to be and it looks pretty good, I must say. I've been running this for 3 weeks now and it's great... I definitely recommend doing this.

Here are some pictures of my setup:

Closer view of the display.

Angled shot... stylish.

I switched out the surface mount LEDs that are in the stock unit with ones I got from the internet. The LEDs measure 2.0mm x 1.75mm x .75 mm so have your tweezers ready! The way I did it was:

Red = Laser (I left the stock LED in there since I don't encounter laser very much, so I'll know to slowdown no matter what)
Blue = KA band
Orange = K band
Green = X band

The install took about 30 minutes. 27 minutes of which was removing the stock LEDs. Once you have the red LEDs off the V1 board, the rest is smooth sailing!

Well, I didn't think that far ahead yet actually... haha. This weekend I will be re-routing the hazard switch to another location in the cabin. Not exactly the safest of choices... I guess you see where my priorities lie.

A jammer's a little ways down the road for me... I'm looking into the newer diode based units that have been coming out as of late.

The swapped LED's is a pretty cool idea!

Here's my write-up of a simular setup.

Go to your Mitsubishi dealership and pickup an OEM lancer (NOT EVO) radio/HVAC bezel. It has the hazard flasher on the bezel. I don't think they are that expensive.

Check it out:
