I've had the 3m clearbra on my IX for about 6 months now and after 8000 miles of mostly highway driving, im happy to say that i have NO rock chips on my hood *knocking on wood*. It costs $550 but its the best investment i've made in my car so far. A $35k car w/ a banged up hood is a definate no no

I love the idea, and how the clear bra works, but im still "iffy." Im a professional detailer and i feel that once the clearbra is on, detailing the car is gonna be that much more difficult...Does anyone know if these are swirl resistant or anything and if u buff over them like regular paint or not...lol im just curious

No, you can't use an orbital buffer on it. You would have to hand buff it. The clearcoat on the 3M film is very good and all it needs is a good clay-baring(?) and then a good wax. You can do anything to the film that you would do to your paint as far as maintenance and care, except use an orbital buffer!

Clearbra is our friend...

My website: www.qualitytint.com

I have pictures of me doing a Ferrari 360 install, & lots of pictures showing what to avoid when getting a clearbra.. Do your research, & call around to find a GOOD installer, as anyone who is doing quality work uses 3M material, but there are a lot of hacks around. I'll be posting the install of a 07 Corvett soon.

My 2005 MR has a 48" single piece bra covering the entire hood, no lines. I only do custom installs, direct off the bulk rolls. Most computer cut kits don't wrap over the leading edge of your hood, allowing you to get chips right on the front edge of the hood.. Why get a clearbra, if it doesn't fully protect?

Anyways, congratulations on the bra! You will be very happy in 5 years when the car still looks brand new!

There's a company in Connecticut called ArmorGlove that does clearbra installs.

The main office is in Connecticut, so you shouldn't have any problems.

ArmorGlove was what I was going to install prior to using the Xpel but my local ArmorGlove installer went out of business recently.

The ArmorGlove system does not use the 3M film like the other clearbra kits.

Good luck.

Warning!

Attached is a picture of a non-3m clearbra that I removed from a car, in order to replace it with a 3-m. This is why I ONLY use 3m materials...

A few years ago when 3M clears bra were just coming out, some one here in Norcal was doing it for $350. I too am "iffy" about clear bras. My reasons:

1. You have to Prep. the surface by using a good degreaser for the clear bra to adhere. But doens't that take the wax which protects the paint?

2. Discoloring. I heard about the paint discoloring, especially on a white car.

3. It only protects "minor" rock chips. I heard of people with getting some chips on their car and yes the clear bra protected it from the chip but you can see the "ding" where the rock hit.
