made my Alpine LCD amber...

I got tired of the all greenish/blue light in my interior so i did the amber lights conversion. after a week or so, i noticed my alpine deck (CDE-9852) was a little brighter than everything now that it was a milder color. the deck is very blinding at times, even at it's lowest brightness level. i looked around online for ways to try to make the deck amber because i wasn't gonna fork out $$$ to get another one just to match my interior.

i decided to change my whole deck to amber. i pop it open and see that there were no bulbs, but tiny little light things (tiny LEDs encased in white plastic??). i didn't wanna risk damage by painting the light things or the clear that travels the illumination, so instead i used left over seran wrap (like for the radio change) and cut it to fit snuggly in the faceplate. it worked fine except for now the buttons were all darker in their original colors, and i couldn't really see the button illumination descriptions (especially the big blue buttons). the LCD was amber though, so i decided to make a small rectangle just to overlay the LCD. it worked... though the buttons are still the same green and blue which i don't mind, now my LCD is amber and not blinding me when i drive at night!!!! pics below.... enjoy! (i left them big for clarity's sake)

from a distance (this pic does no justice)

here's a close up!

i might have to do this, i also noticed that the newer alpine decks are too bright with the rest of the dash lights.
