Some pics of my track car
Get a full custom cage if you're serious about making it a dedicated track car. I have a cage overbuilt to SCCA+NASA+RallyAmerica rules. 250 lbs, no regrets--3150 lbs wet with the cage. The added structural rigidity is nice, too. Specs here.
If I could do one thing different, it would be to get NASCAR-style door bars instead of X-style. That way, under most rules, you're allowed to gut the front doors.
Of all my upgrades this year, I've spent the most money on safety: cage, seats, window net, harnesses, HANS, master switch, fire system. Safety first FTW--you can't be fast if you're dead.

Thanks for the info... I am looking into something custom. I made a post a few months ago asking for a good cage builder in the NJ,NY,PA area. Once I can find a good builder I'll move ahead.

I run Nasa on the West Coast. Buttonwillow, Laguna Seca, Thunderhill mostly. And yes you are right 10% of cars have a cage. But the ones that are out there without a cage don't have fixed back seats and harnesses either.
Read the rules. If you have fixed back seats and harnesses you need at LEAST a roll bar. Because if you roll with the current setup and your roof caves in, you are strapped in your seat and the roof will crush your head. But dont take my word for it, plenty of racers have died like that, which is why there is a rule.
People that don't run cages, run RECLINABLE seats and usually stock seatbelts, which is fine. Because in the event of a roll their body will still lean forward and the seats will recline in a roll over. So actually someone going out there with a stock car with stock restraints is safer than you are.
Maybe they dont care in NJ, but over here we follow the rules. Just looking out for you man. Not trying to hate as i said the car looks good, but it would suck to flip and get dead or paralyzed just because you wanted to save 70 lbs.
