Silver Apex in Germany!
Silver Apex in Germany!
I finally got my car from LA a couple of months ago and here are some pics. First of all, Germany is great and I have been able to travel so far to Paris, Vienna, Munich (Oktoberfest), and Garmisch (ski resort in Bavaria). Second, I can't describe to you the wonderful feeling of going 120+ on the Autobahn without having to look over my shoulder.
You appreciate the power that the Evo has but you can also see its shortcomings (noise, lack of luxurious feel). Maybe I am getting old but I can see why getting into a 5 series or an Audi S4/6/8 makes autobahning so easy.
The Evo turns lots of heads here as you don't see very many. I have seen exactly 3 others with a GG 9 rolling around the base a few times. At the same time I have seen an R34, R33 V-Spec, an R32, and a RHD FD driving around and THOSE are definitely hot.
Once springtime comes, I plan to track on the Nurburgring and Hockenheim(carefully). I think I have a decent track setup (stoptech slotted rotors, KW variant 3 coilovers, Cusco rear sway, OEM brakeguides, HP+ pads, stoptech steelbraklines, Motul 600) but I don't plan on getting sub X minutes at the 'Ring. One guy already destroyed his yellow Evo 8 and I don't plan on joining him soon.
You will find the local tuning scene to be absolutely horrible. Mods are circa 1980's: blingy neons, awful awful wheels, and pastel paint jobs. I was quite shocked literally and laughing at the same time. I will post representative pics later.
Anyways, here is my baby:

18" Work Emotion XD-9's on 245-40-18 Michelin Pilot PS2s

Custom emblem paint and custom painted VG (this was before the 9 VGs were available)

Consider yourself lucky to have quality tuners in your area. I happened to have in SoCal like Tuning Tech and parts gurus like 500whp.com/myevostore.com to rely on. Nothing here. It is very hard to find someone who you can find and trust around here. I was luck to even find a local Mitsu dealership who can do scheduled maintenance.
Hope you enjoy this post and critiques/criticisms are welcomed.

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
It looks so clean - car and local.
May I ask, was it difficult to get your car over? I see you are USAF, did you have it shipped that way or other?
((Out-side chance I could end up out that way in about a year for work))

Air Force pays to have a car shipped. Look me up when you ever get to Germany.

he didn't pay anything, the military will ship one car for you free if you have PCS orders.
did 9 years in germany, wish i woulda had my Evo when i was over there. nothing like running down the autobaun and not having to worry...
Lip is from streetconcepts....not the best b/c you have to do so much to prepr the surface to make it look halfway decent. i would suggest something better. I plan to be in Germany for about 4 years. I am trying to get my hands on an R34 Skyline that is up for sale.
Steve, I was the one that ordered the Hawk HP+ but got the HPS instead. You will get my pads back in the mail soon!
Military is wonderful and has been good to me.

ehh....the shipping company actually damaged my front lip. You can kinda see it in the picture. i will be making a claim with it. Autobahn driving is really nice but you have to remember that Americans are very sloppy drivers when it comes to speed, braking, and high speed maneuvers. Germans pay about 1500-2000 Euros for driver's education which at the current exchange rate is about $2000-$2700. It is essentially a high performance driver's education course. They teach you how to skid and turn in the wet, brake, high speed turn, etc which is why the accident rate here (despite the high speeds) is very low.

car looks clean your one lucky guy!
