OEM car cover fading paint!!
Oksorry if this should be somewhere else.
I got a 03 Tarmac EVO it now has 41k on it. I Bought it in tampa Fl with 12k miles it was garaged everynight. Well after owning the car a year the paint still looked top notch with the exception of the Carbon fiber of the wing starting to turn white and the calipers blistering. I moved u to Ma I drove the car the entire 1400 Mile trip the cars paint still looked perfect. well almost another year later the paint is now looking sad in my eyes.
I have no garage yet for the car so I bought a OEM car cover to cover it while I dont drive it. The car is no longer my Daily driver it was for a for a little while. I ALWAYS make sue my car is washed and waxed prior to tossing the cover over it. well the car cover is taking its toll on the paint I noticed the rear 1\4s kind of flare out the paint is dull as is parts of the roof I did try to buff it and it is still noticalbe in my eyes. So addind all the corners of the car looking dull to the rock chips the hood has now Mitsu paint is really driving me insane. the car just doesnt have teh smooth glassy look to me anymore even when it is freshly waxed which I do on a weekly basis.
Anyone else notice the OEM fitted covers doing this to there paint? Anyone know anything further I can do to protect my paint from getting worse. I will have a garage for it in a few months but for now I hav no choise not to mention I need to cover it since the apartments I live in is full of jelious dinks My car got egged when i first moved in and the shell let little sratched on the car and that is when I desided to cover it all the time.
I almost wonder if I am better off not covering the car now

Car Cover
I had a car cover for a previous car I owned. I found that the covers tend to trap moisture., primarily from temperature changes. +1 for not using cover. See if you can rent a garage in the area.

It def is not waterproof 100% rain gets through it as well. Is teh EVOs paint just that bad though? It doesnt take much I guess even the rock chips are worse than any car I have ever owned.
Hi, I seem to be having the same troubles as you. I unfortunately don't have a garage to keep my Evo in. I have had the
OEM car cover for about 8 months. Before that I had a cheapy Wal-Mart Budget cover that was made of some rough material. The summer before last I got the spoiler replaced under warranty for the sun fade/crack problem that people have been having, so when it went out of warranty, I got the cover because I didn't want to run into that again. So, the paint on my mirrors now is pretty much flat blue. It looks bad. I keep a thick coating of wax on the car, but I haven't been the best at cleaning the car off before covering it, since I don't have easy access to water.
Right now I have the car in a storage space, but come Feb I will need to remove it. I know that the OEM cover flaps around a lot in the wind, and I think that might be responsible for some of the millions of fine scratches in the clear coat, making it look dull. I wish I had realized that sooner, as I could have simply either taken the cover off on windy days, or done something else to secure the light
OEM cover. Did you leave the cover on on windy days too? I think what I'm going to do in Feb is put the OEM Mitsu car cover on the car, put the Budget car cover on top of it, then wrap a couple tie downs around the car (not too tight!) to secure the covers. Anyone have any comments on doing that?

I am looking into a re spray for next winter anyway because I HATE having dull scratched paint. I care about the care and paid alot for it so it should look that way ya know.
