Your opinion??

Hey guys,

I am a proud owner of a 05 WRX STi. I just bought it 5 months ago. I love it. A part of me really loves the EVO also. I wanted to know your honest opinion about your cars (maintenance, reliability, performance, ease of modification and how well it responds to modification) as I have considered trading my STi in for an EVO. I have been looking at this site for a while and you guys have some really nice cars. Thanks for your input and time. oh by the way here's a pic of my car!!

maintenance- You pay for what you use, brakes oil whatever. The clutch is weaksauce right out of the box so if you beat it, its gonna go out.
reliability-Only real problem I've had is my head unit wont play CD's which is covered by my warranty
performance- when I drive this car I become one with it. No other car can do what it does at this price, sorry, but not even the STI
ease of modification - Simple and straightforward. If thats not enough, check evom for a write up!
and how well it responds to modification-Get an Evo IX and an exhaust, drop in filter, Manual boost controller tune and get crazy nuts power at the wheels.

Or you can keep your STI, if youre into that kinda thing.

Well I will help you out since i have owned both.

If you don't already know the STI is a real pain to mod yourself, the Evo however is really simple to modify. The STI and Evo respond about the same to TBE and tune(excluding EVO IX), but after that the Evo is much cheaper and easier to modify. The stock turbo and top mount of the STI limit its ability to keep up after that.

Handling wise the EVO is slightly better but I doubt, no offense, that you or most people, myself included can take either car far enough to the limit to really notice it.

You realy have to test drive both and make your own decision. I owned an 03 Evo for about a year before I traded that in on a 06 STI. I prefer the look of the 06/07 STI's myself. I traded my STI in to get a bike because I didnt like the STI that much and I missed my Evo.

Oddly enough know that I have had both and now have niether if I had a choice I would take the STI over the Evo as a better all around DD.

I just hit a link from a Subaru forum and wanted to show my car and it became more.. Thanks for the info. I also like the 06, 07 STi. Looks meaner than mine but I paid only $24,000 out the door for my car with 15,000 miles on it. Any.ways, thanks for the info.

My personal preference is the Evo, I find it alot simpler to deal with a inline engine vs a flat engine, Spark plug changes, and it gets easier when you want to do like cams, you only have 2 cams with a dohc inline engine, vs 4 cams for a dohc flat engine. And the evo does come with a larger turbo from the factory, where a sti's vf34 runs out of steam at 300whp or so. But STi's I feel are a little easier to deal with on a daily basis, Torque is available sooner, and it not sprung quite as aggressive as the evo. But the STi does have that mean roar . If your just looking for a fast daily driver. I would just get a cobb stage 2 and be happy with it. But if your looking for a monster 11 second daily driver, It would be alot easier with a IX. Take that for what its worth, Just my oppinion. Beautiful Color Sti by the way. Best of luck to you!
