Did something stupid tonight...

Hey guys... the title says it all.... I tried to power up my radar detector out of the dome lights so I don’t have any wires running on the windshield. I did not realize that there is not a constant 12v power.... it goes down after you close the doors....."realized it after I closed the door when and after I put everything back to normal." I took the radar out and put everything back to normal but the lights will not work when I opened the door..... it would work when I push the button to on position... I checked all the fuses but everything seems fine... Don’t know what the problem is... Anybody with an idea of what i ****ed up???? Thanks

Did you check ALL of your fuses? Including in the engine bay?

Sounds like the trigger to the door is not connected / or shorted...Please double check the fuse....Please make sure that you reconnected / soldered the wires...Please make sure that your light switch is not switched off...

checked evrything today and all fuses are fine. i measured the power and there is a constant 12v power.. What is that thing that cuts off the power when you close the door???? i think thats where my problem is... The door switch works fine all wires and fuses too...

I wanted to mention that you can wire up your radar detector to the dome light. I currently have mine wired up and it's powered off the center dome light switch.

If I remember correctly, there is always +12v to the dome light via the wiring harness. It's the ground that is lifted on that harness when the doors are shut. If the light isn't working when the doors are shut and the switch is all the way on, you should check to make sure that the screws holding the assembly in place are properly grounded. That is where the dome light gets its ground when it's switched all the way on. By all the way on, I'm referring to the center dome light's switch being in its far right position if that makes sense.

EDIT:I went back and re-read and realized your problem is the complete opposite than what I had thought. So what I mentioned doesn't exactly apply to solving your problem but at least you have confirmation that you can wire up your radar detector to the domelight.
