My zeitronix display install (kinda long, but with pics :))

Good god, this is the first thing I've done to the Evo and it was such a PITA throughout the entire install, but I'm happy with the way it came out. First problem the grommet, getting it out not so bad putting it back in, well that's another story. I broke a pool cue putting that damn grommet back in

THe PITA grommet...

Next up was powering up the zt-2. Since I refused to cut any of the vehicles wires up and didn't want to spend the $150 on the ECU harness (not using the zt-2 for tuning, just the boost sensor, so I don't need to wire into RPMs TPS, etc.) I instead opted to just purchase a turbo timer harness. Here came the next issue. For some reason crimping the wires to the harness was being annoying after I finish and ground it, I notice the monitor is powered up without the car being on or the key even being remotely close to the key hole But hey there were two more wires to try and the second time was a charm. Apparently red is constant power whether the car's on or not, but green is golden and not only did I not have to cut any wires on the car, but I didn't even have to cut any wires for the TT harness

Ok simple right. Now I've got power and am only minutes away from connecting the boost sensor and being able to have a boost gauge in my car. Of course it's not simple. I don't have a vaccuum T so I gotta run to the parts store which was then followed by a completely unrelated trip to the junk yard 1+ hours later, I'm back but now the cars hot as hell under the hood and I don't wanna burn myself. Look at that lunch time already. 45 minutes later and I'm finally ready to finish the last 5 minutes of work that's been waiting for over 2 hours.

Ok so since I wanted to be able to use the boost sensor when tuning my DSM with the ZT-2, I got these nice male/female connectors for the wires. They look like this...

Great idea THese were a ***** to get the wires crimped into. I finally plug both ends in for all 3 wires for the boost sensor turn the car on and surprise surprise, not working. Okay well since the wire I had was limited to red and black that left me with two red wires from the zt-2 going to the boost sensor. I think to myself maybe I did mix up the red wires even though I was 99% positive. I go to unplug these nice fancy little male connectors from the pretty little female connectors and all hell ensued. These ****ers were breaking from everywhere, wires were coming out of them, the metal parts were coming out of the plastic housing they came in being left stuck to the other side, etc.. Basically I wanted to kick the inventor in the nuts. Now I'm stuck with no connectors but decide that at least maybe it was just a bad connection that kept it from working. I twist the wires together quickly and go start the car up. Finally!!! It works! I gave up and just soldered the wires together wrapped with electrical tape and my nightmare was finally over. Here's the rest of the pics...

Boost sensor...

ZT-2 hidden away (BTW it barely fits here, but it does fit)

Who would'a thunk I could make such a mess installing one measly little item...

The (semi) final product...

For anyone interested, the display fits somewhat snugly in that little storage bin, but too lose to stay in place. A little velcro though and it's going nowhere and yet still easily removable. It's hard to tell from these pics, that it's easy to see, but I must say driving around, there was not once when I couldn't read the gauge. It's sweet.

Eventually I will make a cover so that I can hide the display when I want to, but that will come another day.

Thanks goes out to those who made the write-ups that helped me, TT install, boost gauge install, and zeitronix install write-ups were all used in bringing this together

For those that made it this far I applaud you for having a more boring Friday night/Sat morning than me Now go spice up your day by rubbing one out to an NWS thread in OT

can you read comfortably from that point of view? I'd like my boost readings to be closer and without me looking down

I can, maybe cause I'm young, maybe cause I'm used to a similar setup in my DSM, only difference is those numbers are harder to read and I can't see the display in 3rd. But on this setup I find it fairly easy to read and no visibility issues. No different then glancing at the radio IMO. Plus I've really got it more to keep an eye on if I'm developing any boost leaks so I can just set it to peak and then look after a pull. Now if I was also using it to monitor EGT's and AFR's I'd want it closer to me but for what I'm using it for it's fine.

Well I bought the basic wideband setup for my DSM back in November directly from Zeitronix for $279 plus shipping. I just got the Display and boost sensor from TTP Engineering back in March when they had a sale here for another $200. So about $500 I guess
