Got the 3m clear shield put on the other day!
Well, those installers have a whole set-up of lights around the car (like some dent repair places). Personally, I'd just rather have a professional do it, and save myself the headache.

Whether it would be worth it or not depends of course on the $$$'s.I've seen a couple sites listing this, they don't all specifically say 3M, so there may be other/lesser products out there as well.

Anyone remember those info commercials for those indestructable waxes (i think one was Finish2000)? In the commercial they would set the hood that was protected with the wax on fire and sand blast it, without a mark showing up. Just curious if anyone has tried one of these as an alternative. After all it's only $19.95 and you don't just get one bottle, you get two bottles, the super chamoi, and the orange peeler.

I've actuaqlly applied tint to quite a few freinds cars in the past and no bubbles even years later. Its not to hard to apply stuff like that if you have time and patience so I imagine this stuff couldn't be to hard. I just wanted the lifetime warranty!

So I pulled the material off the hood. I think that if I did the job again I would be able to get it on without the problems I cited.
On the other hand this is a job that really needs experience to get a good install, similar to tinting. At some point I'm going to find an installer to put a new kit on.

I was doing research on getting 3M clear shield applied to my car when I first got my car. But when I call a 3M authorized dealer around my area, they won't help me to put it on. From our conversation, this film is a hard to apply. Since we don't really have a flat surface on our car, you will get bubbles. The dealer will only help me to cut the film, but I will have to apply it for myself.
BTW, this film will protect your car from chipping. I think I will save $$ now. If I end up getting a lot of chips on my car bumper & hood, I will swap out with a body kits "c-west". That's a good excuse to spend more $$.

As for a DIY job, there are places that would love to sell you a kit and tell you its possible to do it yourself, but even on an easy install, I have never seen anyone put on a kit correctly their first time(myself included!) and the EVO is definitly a challenging car. Find a good installer in your area and go see for yourself the work thats involved in a quality install.
If anyone has any questions about paint protection film feel free to drop us a line!
