Question about the HID
Question about the HID
Does any of your HID turn yellowish after 15sec or so after is turned on? I have seen video on the evo8 wit the headlights on and it seems much brighter than mine. When i turn on my headlight...it seems to be really bright and white for about 10 to 15 sec....and then the color start fading to a yellowish color (like regular headlight) I wanna know if this is normal or is just mine.

It's all about the angle. I was doing some night photography, and
from the side they look white, but looking directly in to them from
a distance they are almost purple or blue and keep changing from
those to white pending on where you are standing. Very unique.

thats the way HId works....The purple color is just the warm up stage, and it will stay yellowish afterwards, but the color output will be bluish/purple white color depends on the angle...

Looks normal to me. The Evo color temp doesn't seem as blue/purple as some of the European cars.

I believe the HID that comes on the evo8 is ~4300kelvin. The bluish version is about 6000K and the purplish version, which is in most bmw and mercerdes is 8000k. These value are for fully warm up..15secs after turn on. Generally, the higher kelvin rating, the better it looks, but brightness is sacrificed.
The purple on the edge of the light beam is caused by diffraction of the light passing thru, the same reason you see rainbow when its raining.
To onetOnsoup: your light looks ok. just compare the light from the 2 headlight, if one looks a different color from the other, then you should start suspicious. These bulbs have very long life, might last as long as the car if its not abused.

the original temp of an HID bulb is 4300k made by philips or sylvannia...the higher temp of your bulb the less visibility you'll have, coz it will be more purple/bluish color than white....All the luxury cars with HID are using the 4300k bulb....6000k-8000k Is B.S to me IMO.....

mine always look purpleish
