Stereo advice?

Ok, so I'm sick to death of the worthless POS stock stereo... I'm used to much better than this. I can't turn it up past half volume without it sounding like a mono AM transistor radio being held underwater. I'm not an expert in car audio, I just know when something sounds good and when it doesn't. I don't need audiophile-level sound, but I DO want decent, full sound regardless of volume - and I like to crank it up pretty often. I really don't want to get an amp or sub for weight and $$$ reasons and I don't want to go much over $300. Is it the h/u, speakers or both that are the weak link? Can anyone recommend a good setup in my price range? Thanks

The weakest link is ur H/U. That stock sucka only pushes out 100 watts of power, that's only 25 watts per speaker. The stock speakers are capable of quite more than that, although the exact number I am unsure of. Get yourself a nice headunit and you will not be dissappointed.

Get an Alpine h/u and you'll be quite amazed at the difference. If you want speakers too (and I suggest only upgrading the front speakers, unless you ride in the backseat alot) get Infinity Reference ($99) and the $140-ish Alpine h/u, you'll be all set. If you don't have to pay installation costs, you could always move up the h/u to the $179-ish range. If you look in my pro you'll see what I got...couldn't be any happier with it either!

Yea man I think you shold change the Head.....prob get a Blaupunkt (my fav) or an Eclipse (I like those as I don't have to walk around with the fizzuking face in my pocket

then after a while maybe the speakers w/amp (?) I think that will give you a nice sound w/o the sub
