Cool Socal cops prefer Evo to STI

Had a little photo shoot with a few friends. Ended up being harrased by cops (so what else is new). Ran plates, licenses, warrant checks, searched the cars, asked if they were stolen, the works. While we're being questioned I asked one of the cops whose car he liked more. He said the evo . Anyways we managed to escape with no tickets just a warning to not be there.

Pics are underexposed because I only have the kit lense and my lost fstop was 4.5. Plus it was pitch black night in all except the 2nd shot and I was maxing out 30second exposure. Pretty good though for their being honestly no light whatsoever.

The last shot with the lights in the background is sweet.

I can see the run plates and licenses, but illegal searches I would have had a few words about that

It's not illegal search, if your on private property loitering. Sounds like the cops had good tast. I do like the last one.

Which camera and lens? Were you going off what your light meter was telling you? Ever tried painting with flash for those long exposures?

Rebel XT. Yes I was going off my light meter. I have an external flash but nothing to bounce it off of in an open setting like where we were. How do you "paint" with it? I've only had my camera about a month and I'm trying to learn as much as I can.

Yeah, you'd need an external light source, since the Rebels don't have a "slow" or "rear" flash like the Nikons do, which helps. I was under an overpass for this shot of a friend's G35. Zero light. It's a 30 second exposure and all I had him do was walk past the car with his cell phone directed toward the car. No white balance correction, since I liked the blue hue that the phone emitted.
