Hey,

Just looking to see if anyone has or can dig up pics of a polished exhaust manifold treated with either oil or wd-40 or the like. It makes it turn to a purplish blue color and I am curious to see the outcome.

mine is stainless steel, it was polished and was chrome and when the car was turned on..it turned the nice gold/ purple color :]

 

^ Ya that looks normal for a polished manifold as a goldish very slightly purple color, BUT if you give it a wipe with oil or WD40, it will turn blueish purple, I've seen it done by accident, but haven't seen it done on an entire manifold purposely....

yea i know its normal... my manifold is stainless steel, so any oils or contaminants on it will make it an ugly rust color..if i spray with wd-40...will it cause this ugly rust color?

it turns blue cause of th difference in temperature on the manifold, you can get the same effect by passing an electric current thru it at varying frequencys...titanium is the same

 

will using wd40 make my manifold ugly after it gets hot???
