I run the APR CF rear. I choose it over the JDM rear for two main reasons:
1) It's more functional (relatively speaking)
2) I didn't want to be re-classed for AutoX since you lose the crash beam with the JDM rear

In the end it's up to you. If I only cared about looks then I would have most likely bought the JDM piece. Heck, I'm still tempted every now and then, that's how good it looks! Here are some pics since you don't seem to see it (the APR piece) that often. I tried to include a few different angles, including underneath, to give you a better idea.

thanks for the pics! the weave looks like it is 1x1 and all the cf stuff i just bought is 2x2. : ( Anyone know for sure the cf weave on the apr diffuser? Still stuck, I've read you can modify the crash beam to support the jdm bumper though. Also, from what i've read it only protects against 5 mph bumps. Most people think about being rear-ended (so they don't add the modified crash beam) but they do not take into consideration that someone might bump into your parked car. Please correct my if im wrong! Thanks

Yes it's a tricky situation. Some people don't do it because they're worried that their insurance company will find out and deny damage.

im not worried about insurance, my body shop guy wouldn't mind throwing that in to make it look as if it was there. I'm more worried of someone in a parking lot bumping into me

How's the fitment on the APR diffuser on your EVO? I heard that some fit better than others....

I'm afraid of buying that has subpar fitment that will look like crap on my car...

Fitment was absolutely perfect. I actually bought mine used from a friend (hence the scratches on the back). I really like it and get comments on it all the time. If I were to buy new, however, I see no real reason to spend the extra $ to get CF.

Thanks for your feedback regarding the CF one....

also, with the diffuser in place do you lose complete access to the rear tow hook?

I like using it as a jacking point with my sears 2 ton aluminum jack

Yes, you will not be able to access. Here are two more pics from APR's website:

You modify your crash beam. That is a dumb excuse to justify that diffuser. They do sell panels for it and you could custom make one for your car if need be.

Sorry I don't really see how it's "dumb". It's a perfectly legitimate excuse. Just trying to answer the OP's question.

For one you can't compare function between these two products and given that the OP is mainly asking for looks. Second saying you didn't want to be re-classed for auto-x means you didn't realize you could modify your stock crash beam. Your argument doesn't justify adding on to an ugly bumper.
