Ok so this is my story.
I went and bought my evo IX about a year ago, back when I hadn't done research and didn't know much difference between the VIII's and IX's. Long story short I ended up with a 2006 WW Evo MR, with evo VIII headlights, taillights, and front bumper. Well freeway driving 50+ miles Monday through Friday really ate the paint to shizzle. I took it off, sanded it down (im not body man, so it doesn't look the greatest), and planned on painting it. I bought the paint, and found out the gun I planned on using had skipped town. Now, after lots of thought, since I don't know what the eff i'm doing, I've decided to get it painted by someone who does. I hate the look of the VIII front bumper and want something different. The shop I went to quoted me about 360 to prep and paint the bumper. I am considering buying a cheap bumper and just getting that painted instead. I know obviously a cheap bumper isn't what I want, but I want something for the time being. Anyone have any ideas? What design or material to stay away from? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

OP: IMO i think u should go oem bumper. there is nothing wrong with oem. you can cut off the "beak" of the VIII bumper. and get a new lip and paint it all and it will look fresh. dont go cheap cause fitment and durability can be an issue depending on brand and composite.

 

Cool I like your idea about shaving the triangle. I saw one who did that and it looked pretty good. I think when I take the bumper to the body shop I will inquire about them doing that. That will save me from buying a new emblem too. I broke the old one taking it off. Thanks for the help guys.

 

you could just get a used ix bumper and all the necessary hardware since you plan on painting it anyways

 

ix bumper is the best looking bumper out there i think.

 

heres an idea for you. shave the peek in the middle, get a do-luck lip leave it cf or color match it and get varis air ducts just like this:

I'm agree with you, the best look is the EVO IX bumper, or shave the EVO VIII
triangle, that looks very nice too.
The second option is more cheap that buy the IX bumper, but you have the last
decision.

well if it is just something to stand in for now till you get what you want I would go with a used bumper also. like was said above. I definately would not go for something cheap because that could get messed up before the time that you get what you really want then your just wasting money. but yeah the IX bumper is gorgeous, I would get one but I am trying to keep my VIII looking like one.
