Trouble Picking a Harness
Trouble Picking a Harness
Ok, please read everything and consider my concerns, before recommending something.
I will be getting a roll bar for my car in June, so I would need a harness as well. So im currently reading up online about harnesses, but i always seem to get stumped.
Right now I am running a stock seatbelt with stock seats. I want a harness that is FIA, SCCA, NASA, Redline approved. I want a harness that is a 6pt and Hans compatible, to future proof my setup. As some places requires 6pt. I will not be running harnesses on the street. Since the stock seat does not have the slit for the "crotch 2pt", this means I would need a 4pt, that can be upgradable to a 6pt. Since 4pt harnesses are not safe without ASM, I was thinking of just getting a 4pt harness with ASM from Schroth. You can add a 2pt to the ASM 4-pt Harness as an option. BUT, ASM does not work with Hans device. So, you can see my dilemma. I will be getting a bucket seat once the car becomes a track only car and don't want to buy harnesses twice if possible.
My next concern is regarding the 3" or 2" shoulder and lap strap. Yes, I have read the pros and cons for both. 2" shoulder means you can use it with Hans and 3" you still can, but less effective and less comfortable. 2" lap means you can pull tighter and lock up faster, react faster, and more comfortable. Since the ASM 4-pts are all 3" shoulder harnesses, that means no Hans because they dont work together with ASM. Is it even FIA approved?
I don't care if its street legal or not since i won't be wearing it for the street. Stock seatbelt will be used to DD.
Sparknotes: I want FIA, SCCA, NASA, Redline approved harness that supports Hans from Schroth only that works for stock seat and future bucket seat (aka. Sparco Circuit or the like). Will be DD stock seatbelts.
Should i just get a 4pt ASM with 2pt attachment and just skip the Hans compatible feature. Is this even FIA, etc.. approved. Doesn't say. Link im referencing. http://www.ioportracing.com/Merchant...ory_Code=P2ASM

Get a 4 Point Schroth with ASM for now.
Upgrade to a 6 point when you get a race seat. If you turn your car into a track only machine $200 for a harness will be pocket change compared to the other expenses...

Are the pull up and pull down straps for shoulder and lap functions exactly like it sounds or is it the inverse? Can someone post a pic of what is pull down and pull up from this link. I see the picture, but dont know if its one or the other.
Take note at the lap strap. Or am i just looking at it wrong and it can be done both ways? haha...i dno.
