my buddy is a custom painter and was going to paint each wheel with alot of preping....hes done numerous wheels and no chips! thats why i was asking......

i just thought the black wheels, bright red brembo calipers and a GG evo would be nasty.

If you have some one good at it you could go gloss black with a red lip. Some would say that has also been done numerous times but with gray that is one of my favorite color combos. Besides it almost impossible to be the only one with a certain wheel let alone a certain color. Just pick what you like and don't worry about what other people have.

The wheel is pointed towards the left but they clear with no rubbing at all, still I've got wide fenders coming soon enough

Hate to high jack old thread but i cant post yet. Has anyone tried just stripping the paint off the 2010 lancer gts wheels. I got mine (gts sportback really) used with 9000 miles and the paint on wheels is peeling off but i noticed its a nice smooth slightly darker color underneath. How can i get the paint off without harming whats under there cause the color under that paint looks like it would be nice. Better than seeing that its peeling. Thanks. I'm a noob so dont burn me to bad.

I would say powdercoat black or else leave em. I painted my rims black and they started flaking after about a year.

I still wouldnt mind seeing whats under the paint on the stock GTS wheels. Would paint thinner get the paint off without harming or dulling out whats underneath?

I still don't think I would have them painted. I do however think you should go black on the GG. Pay a little more to have them powdercoated. You won't be sorry.

I think they look great the way they are, I have to agree with sikrsix, wouldn't hide those nice rims with black.

Maybe I'm not wording this correctly. I am asking what is under the painted gts stock wheels. The paint on mine is peeling but under the paint it looks like a smooth slightly darker color than the paint. Can I get the paint off the wheels without sanding and use what's under it? I'm not gonna paint them, but I dont want to leave them looking all peeled in some areas.
